Funded consultancy from THA

There are two grant schemes available to THA for the financial year 2010/11 which voluntary sector organisations can apply to join in order to receive funded consultancy.

Please note the schemes are separate and have their own, different eligibility criteria and closing dates.

Scheme 1 - Children, Young People and Families

If your helpline is based in and serves part or all of England and deals with issues affecting children, young people and/or families (CYPF), then you can apply to receive THA consultancy time for any helpline-related project aimed at benefitting CYPF.

This scheme is part of the CYPF programme from the Department for Children, Schools and Families. We will explore an agreed aspect or aspects of your service and provide recommendations for developing it to reach more CYPF or be more helpful to them.

Helplines in the current programme include:

·         ACE Centre Advisory Trust (Oxford) – we are helping them in the initial stages of formalising their information and advice provision for people with enquiries about technologies that aid children with complex communication needs.

·         Parent Lifeline (Sheffield) – we are helping them to strengthen their monitoring framework and expand their service model.

·         Muscular Dystrophy Campaign - we are helping them to improve the moderation and safety of interactive facilities on their My Online World website for young people.

As the scheme depends upon achieving real outcomes, we will only select those helplines that have a specific project with which they need support and that can demonstrate that they have the commitment and the capacity to work with us. Preference may be given to THA members and to smaller organisations that would have no other means to access consultancy.

If you would like to apply, please email the following to Mark McLean:

1.          A brief description of your organisation including its aims and catchment area

2.          Specific details of the topic area with which you would need support and the objective(s) you would like to achieve (250-300 words)

3.          A description of how you will dedicate time and resources to undergo a ‘baseline’ assessment (Apr-Jun 2010), to implement agreed recommendations (Jul-Dec 2010) and report back on progress (Jan-Mar 2011)

4.          The name of the person who would be our key contact

5.          Details of the provision you would make for continuity in the event that this person left your organisation.

The closing date for applications to this scheme is 29 January 2010.

Scheme 2 - City Bridge Trust

Do your activities include the provision of information, advice or support by telephone to people in part or all of London?

If your audience does not extend beyond the capital, and you would like to make better use of information and communications technology (ICT), then our City Bridge Trust scheme might help.

You don't have to have a formal 'helpline'.

Under this scheme, we will undertake a review of your use of ICT not only in your telephone service but also across your wider organisation (if applicable). We will then make recommendations for how you can use it more efficiently and effectively to serve Londoners better, or to serve more of them. What is funded is our time – there is no provision for capital expenditure on ICT.

Organisations in the current programme include Alone in London, Lambeth Mind and London Nightline.

As the scheme depends upon achieving real outcomes for Londoners, we will only select those organisations which can demonstrate that they have the commitment and the capacity to work with us.

If you would like to apply, please email the following to Mark McLean:

1.          A brief description of your organisation and its aims

2.          Details of any specific area(s) of ICT with which you would like support

3.          Details of the geographical area that you serve

4.          A description of how you will dedicate time and resources to undergo an ICT assessment (Apr-Jun 2010), to implement agreed recommendations (Jul-Dec 2010) and to report back on progress (Jan-Mar 2011)

5.          The name of the person who would be our key contact

6.          Details of the provision you would make for continuity in the event that this person left your organisation.

The closing date for applications to this scheme has been extended to 3 March 2010.
